We go to a fire and we get dirty. The fire service has long embraced firefighter health and the simple fact that what we see (feel and smell!) after a fire has to be removed. Soot and known carcinogens must be immediately removed from our bodies and gear.
However, the modern fire service now responds to EMS calls 85% of the time. These responses are wrought with in-depth patient contact. Contact in their homes, workplaces, and vehicles.
What we do not see in our scene safety survey are the invisible threats. Scary-sounding threats such as mycobacteria, and viruses such as Rotavirus and Norovirus. Other unseen threats include Fungi and of course, the ones we know way too well by name; COVID-19, MRSA, Flu, and let's not forget those tiny critters known more affectionately as bed bugs!
Every call, every tour we are exposed to these threats. Cres Guard was invented to address and neutralize these threats to our health and the health of our families. Without chemicals, the Cres Guard uses only heat and humidity to decontaminate turnout gear, helmets, jump bags, SCBA masks, and duty boots, just to name a few. In a short 15-minute cycle gear is dry and ready for use.
Departments ranging from one station to over 40 are implementing Cres Guard into their decontamination SOPs as well as new station designs.
